Starship Troopers is AWESOME. I love every second of the two disc DVD! I think that the only people who hate it are people who read and enjoyed the novel is was loosely based upon.
My friends and I love it for its over the top campiness and great moments, like when the cow is eaten by the bug, and they censor the bug but not all the blood and gore flying everywhere.
Or when the chick is walking around all happy and fancy free after getting a giant pincher through her shoulder at the end.
The biggest reason it was awesome? Nazi Doogie Howser.
Oh, I don't hate it just for the comparisons to the book. I hate it for the glaring technical, tactical, strategic and scientific problems too. ^_^ You're certainly welcome to the DVD... but the book was just such a marvelous social commentary that "Johnny and his girlfriends go to fight the bugs, with sexy results!" fell rather flat. ^_^
But you do have a very good point. Nazi Doogie Howser and the "censored" scenes were shining gems in this pile of ostrich offal.
Now, if they just censored the whole movie... now we're talking!
