This is a fairly entertaining guide to stories seen far too often. Thanks, Garran!
Note tha #9 can only be sucessfully pulled off if you're Sherri Tepper. If you've never read anything by Sherri Tepper, may I suggest Family Tree? It's brilliant in it's "Whoa-that-was-completely-not-what-I-was-expecting"ness. Trust me - the premise sounds trite and bizzare, but Tepper can somehow pull off things that would get other writers banished to the slush pile for life.
And whoa! There is more than one sequal to Native Tongue! I've been feeling the urge to reread this as well. It makes me absurdly happy that there's more. I must harass Stacey shamelessly for not providing these to me. Their out-of-print status shall not stop me! (Note: If you're interested in reading these, wait 1-6 weeks after I track down used copies for the reprints)
[Note: Edited for horrendous grammar. Don't kill me. That's what I get for typing while adding in the HTML and flipping between pages.]
