Color me shocked - Netflix did something today that did not earn my undying ire. Granted, this was after a string of undire-ire-inducing activities, but that's par for the course.

Let's go back to two weeks ago. Netflix ships me several discs, including Betterman 6, from Richmond, VA, and Betterman 5, from Timbuktu. Betterman 5 arrives last Saturday (see? Timbuktu)...cracked in half. Literally in two pieces. Not in watchable condition. Disc 6 sits and collects dust.

So, I report it damaged. They send out a replacement copy this past Monday, which arrived yesterday. Cracked in half. I report it damaged last night. This morning, I check my queue...to find that they're shipping me not one, but two copies of said disc. Now, granted, I'm not having the greatest luck with this particular disc, but two copies at the same time is a bit of overkill. (And we're glossing over the whole "I ship back five discs last Friday that don't get recieved for a week" thing, mind)

I, of course, took the only logical course, and called Netflix. I talked to a marvelously helpful woman (a rarity in phone CS these days), who was unable to do anything about the extra copy shipping, but instead temporarily bumped me up a plan, and added a voucher to my account for one additional disc (which won't ship until Monday...errr, Tuesday, but that's hardly her fault). Yay! All is right with the world.

Except my road. My road sucks. When it's no longer a matter of if you're going to slide on the ice, or even when you're going to slide, but how you're going to slide - it's bad. Two miles of barely controlled slide. *shudder* I almost thought I wasn't going to be able to make it in today, either.

This delights me, and is a most entertaining read, although most of you will probably be bored silly. Ah, it makes me chortle in an evil fashion.

Also delightful, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] pictsy, is The Order of the Science Scouts of Exemplary Repute and Above Average Physique, or OOTSSOERAAAP. Featuring merit badges such as (and these are but mere highlights):

-The "inappropriate nocturnal use of lab equipment in the name of alternative science experimentation / communication" badge.
-The "I may look like a scientist but I'm actually also a ninja" badge.
-The "my degree inadvertantly makes me competent in fixing household appliances" badge.
-The "I work with way too much radioactivity, and yet still no discernable superpowers yet" badge.

And let us not forget the "experienced with electrical shock" badge (LEVEL III), in which the recipient has had experience with the electrical shocking of himself/herself. Which, sadly enough, the boy and I both qualify for.

A veritable feast of delight!
