I have a hypothosis. Namely, eighteen-month-old boys (or is it nineteen now?) + flying shrimp + fire = fun. For me. I'm going to test this theory on Saturday.

Heh - the last time I ate at a hibachi place, it was...amusing. I was feeling slightly sick, so I wasn't particularly hungry. I didn't order a meal, just a side of noodles and a side of chicken. Somehow, I ended up with more food than everyone else at the table. Fried rice, veggies, steak, even shrimp (which Erik ate, since I loathe almost all seafood). It was really quite amusing - maybe I looked extra pitiful and the chef was taking pity on me. Then we had the Great Adventures of Erik and the Discovery of Sake.

Oh yes, must bring the camera for this. My poor sister has no idea what she's in for - this is only the beginning. And don't think that I'll resort to dull, unimaginitive things like drum sets. Oh no. I'm thinking much bigger. I'm thinking...chanter. Happily, this is one front where she will never be able to match me, even once I do have kids. No, all the Evil Genius genes went right here. She got all the social, energetic, and athletic genes as compensation, though...

QUACK!

Look, crap! And not very much crap, either...the list isn't getting much shorter, although there are actually a few empty spots on the shelves, now...

118. Sherwood, ed. Jane Yolen (8/2/06)
119. Odyssey, Keith Laumer (8/3/06)
120. New Magics, ed. Patrick Nielsen Hayden (8/7/06)
121. The Briar King, Greg Keyes (8/13/06)
122. The Charnel Prince, Greg Keyes (8/14/06)
123. The Faery Reel, ed. Ellen Datlow (8/16/06)
124. Borderland, ed. Terri Windling (8/19/06)
125. Altered Carbon, Richard Morgan (8/20/06)
126. Great Kings' War, Roland Green and John Carr (8/24/06)
127. Killer, David Drake and Karl Edward Wagner (8/29/06)
128. Mother of Demons, Eric Flint (8/31/06)

Ok, the anthologies and the Keyes books weren't crap. Actually, neither was Altered Carbon (I just bought the two sequel books, too. Because I don't have enough books to read). And the last three were at least entertaining. So maybe not so much with the crap as I thought. There is a chance - a very slight, small chance - that I will finish up another one tonight. However, it is much more likely that I will sleep instead. Sleep++ I feel almost human today, yay!

The full list of books I've read this year is here. I think I'm going to tackle some LeGuin books next - the LeGuin/Tiptree letters in last month's issue of F&SF put me in the right mood. And I'm going to read my way through the entire Liaden Universe series, just for the heck of it. And possibly the Alvin Maker series, too, because one of the anthologies had one of those stories in it.

Where I'm going to find time for this, I don't know - time has been pretty much nonexistant this year.
