Ok, so the National Review came out with
a top ten (errr...fifty?) list of the best conservative rock songs of all time. Great, whatever floats your boat, I suppose.
But, really - I can't quite force myself past the supreme irony that is having a
John Lennon song on the list. That, my friends, is a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot of the highest degree.
( The Full Article )The Earth-logic, it is strong...So, only conservatives are against racism? Or disliked that whole "Berlin Wall" thing?
Also note that any top-ANYTHING list that includes "Little Suzie" earns Stabbity Death, because I hate that song with the firey hate of a thousand burning stars.
*STAB*But, really, reading through the justifications on this list make my head go boom. Some, I can buy. Others...the fuck? Like #29 - quoting Coleridge makes you conservative? And I will freely admit that I am completely lost on the justification for #20. I...just don't get it. Remind me who was in power after 9/11 again? Oh, riiiiight.
How about this? "Just because a rock song is about faith doesn’t mean that it’s conservative. But what about a rock song that’s about faith and whose chorus is in Latin? That’s beautifully reactionary." Um, what? Duly noted - quoting Coleridge and speaking Latin makes one conservative.
And I'll thank them to not confuse libertarianism with conservatism. Not the same thing, even if there is some overlap. Not as much overlap now, with the neo-cons in power. What they say they believe, and the beliefs their actions reveal are quite at odds.
