My drive home yesterday *sucked.* Badly. About half of my drive is on narrow, single-lane winding backroads that have no medians, no shoulders, and frequently have very deep ditches on both sides of the road. I was about ten minutes from my house when traffic came to an abrupt halt yesterday. On these roads, three cars at an intersection at the same time is a traffic jam, so this was what you might call unexpected.
Now, with narrow, winding backroads, you don't have many of what you might call "alternate routes." Where I was at I could have gotten home another way, but it would have required half an hour of backtracking, and then another 40 minutes of driving. Ick. I elected to stay put and wait for whatever was causing the mess to go away.
Urk. The radio was, of course, completely non-helpful. "There's an accident blocking traffic in both directions." Thanks, I hadn't figured that one out, genius! And I was in a complete and total cell phone dead zone. So...I turn off the car, put on the parking break, and start blaring bagpipes, in the hopes that it would motivate people to GET OUT OF MY WAY AND LET ME GET HOME ALREADY!!!
An hour later, traffic starts moving. [Ew, Buck is clipping his fingernails again. Why do you do this at work?] Turns out a white van had managed to drop itself into a five foot deep ditch on a curve. Yay! I felt really bad for the people who were stopped within sight of their houses. But it was frustrating.
As a completely random aside, Arby's has gyros. If you can call a roast beef pita with ranch dressing a gyro. I'll allow it.
