Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is shutting down the system that creates movie recommendations on its shopping Web site after it linked a "Planet of the Apes" DVD to films about famous black Americans, including Martin Luther King Jr.

link.

Oh, and Fedex is advising me that they can guarantee delivery today due to "high package volume." I'm being a bitch on the phone, and informing them that that's just not acceptable, and after they lost one package for three weeks, I'm not going to stand for it again. This probably makes me a horriblebad person, but - Fedex gets no slack from me after screwing up badly once. Have I mentioned that they're the same company that, at my last address, threw a package in my driveway and then backed over it when they pulled out?

Tea, wonderful, wonderful tea, soothes the savage beast, and prevents Wide Area Stabbity Effects and Nuclear Stabs from Orbit. Five points to anyone who remembers what originally prompted the creation of Stabbity Death! (Hints: It was on this journal, and there was a picture involved)

Oh my freaking god. Apparently, Fedex can't deliver packages to me, because they think my house is in PARTLOW!!! Partlow is about an hour southeast of me.

Fedex can't find my freaking house to deliver packages to. How absurd is that? I had to verbally give directions to my house to be passed on to the driver, and they still can't guarantee delivery today. "I'm assuming you'll be home tomorrow?" Yes, of course, because I have nothing better to do on a Saturday than sit at home waiting for Fedex to find my house, when they apparently can't find their asses with all the location data available to them and two hands.

Partlow. Lovely.

(And I can't even bitch to Erik about this, because he's involved in some Supersecret Sting, that required him to come home, get his regular uniform, drive a non-bike cruiser to a location they wouldn't divulge to him, and wait for instructions.)

Some of you may recall that I mentioned some months back that I had heard rumblings that seemed to indicate that the Banner of the Stars novels had been licensed, and I thought we'd get a formal announcement before second quarter 06. Well, it's not a formal announcement, but this certainly had an interesting little gem at the very bottom.

Sometimes, it's nice to be right. ^_^

Although I'm not sure what I think about a Tokyopop original fiction novel line. We have plenty of publishers who do that already, and who know how to sell novels, as opposed to graphic novels. A big part of me wants to see this (despite the fact that it doesn't actually exist yet) as just one small step up from a vanity press - although some of their OEL titles have been pretty decent. Not earth-shattering, but interesting. I might even buy the second volumes of some, if they ever appear! Tokyopop thus far hasn't been particularly successful, from what I've seen, selling actual novels - and you need look no farther than Slayers for all the evidence you need there.

First, I get berated for making a judgement call and not sending something out to someone, and get treated like I'm three. Then, I get praised like a dog who learned a new trick when I apply that same judgement call, and send something out to everyone. But sending everything is clearly out of the question, when I get so much stuff every day that I have trouble going through it all and filtering it to who it needs to go to. If I sent everything to everyone, the important things would get ignored, with good cause. Not that they don't get ignored anyway...New!Boss Lady is going to drive me insane. I don't need a mother, I need a frickin' leader, a boss who's willing to stand up for her team, give me both the work and the direction I need, and not harp at me about stupid shit like I'm three.

So...pretty much the polar opposite of New!Boss Lady, who seems to be under the impression that harping at me constantly about stupid shit is Real Leadership. Aieee...

My new work goal - to get a transfer to one of the missile or launcher groups, so I can go around and truthfully tell people that I am a rocket scientist. Because that would rock.

Holy *insert expletive of choice here*!!

This.

I'm out of words for the moment. Later, I'm sure I'll be properly outraged about the inevitable lack of song subs, and the fact that it's probably going to get a quarterly release. For now, though...
