*twitches madly* I...must have this. It is l33t. Damn the no-self-shopping before Christmas rule!

Boss Man is off all week. Buck is off today, and Fu-Master is off Thursday and Friday. Now to figure out a way to get rid of New!Boss Lady...then, starting Saturday, I get ten whole days off in a row. There will be loafing, lots and lots of loafing. And not much else until New Year's, when we do the homeless-feeding thing. Possibly, there will be High Tea on Dec 30, but that only happens if reservations have been obtained sufficiently far in advance.

Also, at some point this week, there needs to be house cleaning, as we will have guests of the friendly sort, who are kind enough to not comment when the house is filthy, but I wish to not subject them to the current state of the house. Which, this time, is mostly caused by Kitty Rampages. She is a demon beast.

...however, if you would like to discuss either the topics in this post, or a completely random topic of your choice, I am in dire need of entertainment.

You know, I'm discovering that many of the books that got me through my childhood and middle school just aren't standing the test of time. I read them now, and...ow. A lot.

At least I still have Susan Cooper. And Lloyd Alexander. And...that's about it. I can't think of any of my other beloved childhood books that still work as well for me now as they did then. Other than things like Shakespeare and The Count of Monte Cristo (yes, I read that for the first time when I was in fourth grade. Normal I never was), but since those are "true classics," I don't suppose they count.

None, however, have betrayed me the way Anne McCaffrey has. I totalled my first car attempting to make it to a con she was actually going to be at. Not to mention all the work I put into running multiple fan-groups, and actually publishing paper 'zines. And where do you think this journal name came from? Now? I think I'd rather gouge my eyes out with spoons than read most of her newer stuff. And my standards really are kind of low. I can't identify the exact point where her writing imploded (All the Weyrs of Pern, maybe?), but...ow. Maybe it was that gay pheromones interview. That probably did the trick. Anyone who argues that there are gay pheromones loses 50 points automatically.

The IMDB Bottom 100 Movies of All Times is always good for a laugh. I can say with some pride that the only ones of those I've seen were via MST3K. Might I recommend Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders to get you in the proper mood for the season (the monkey!)? And, of course, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

But that goes without saying.
