The list of books I've read progresses apace...and the books in my house that I have not yet read continues to shrink...very, very slowly.
Neither list will be changing much this week or next - my Systems Engineering Blah Blah Blah class is not only rotting my brain, but it's causing me to work 10+ hour days...and that's without going in to my office at all. If I did...I'd never get out alive again. Next week I'll have to work more long hours to try to make up hours for the days the base will be closed. It always kind of bothers me that they close the base and won't allow us to work, yet they force us to take leave for those days. Bastards.
So tired - today was pretty much all groupwork, which wasn't too bad - the day went by relatively quickly, at least. Or the morning did, anyway. I like my group quite a bit. Some of the other groups...not so much. One in particular has two of those overbearing, negative, nitpicky types who go out of their way to find fault with anything they can. During one of our presentations they popped up with "you really shouldn't use that text color on that background." That actually made me feel pretty damn good, because, to me, it translated into "we can't find anything better to complain about in your presentation."
Also, I have discovered that to me, laser = communications. To 90+% of the other people on this base, laser = target aquisition. This amuses me to no end, since target aquisition doesn't ever enter my mind, while communications never enters theirs. Interesting discussion was had.
I'm starting to think that this class isn't actually a complete and total waste of my time, since I can take the skills learned here and apply them to any large systems engineering-type program anywere, private industry included. Unlike the other half of this certification, which tried damn hard to convince me that $400 hammers make perfect sense. It's all in how you bill it. Which is dumb. If you're charging me labor and overhead, charge me for labor and overhead. Don't prorate it into your deliverables.
On that note...sleep. Also, possibly, dinner, but I'm really tired, so I'll probably just be doing the one meal a day thing again. Bad, but...ah well.
