I spent half the night on the floor, because Erik kept thrashing and kicked me out of bed. The cat absconded with my wedding band and took it god knows where. The dog was being stupider than normal, forcing me to actually stand outside (barefoot, in the rain) to make sure that business was taken care of. The AC is broken. I got in my car only to discover that my tank was empty - and I live about twenty five miles from the closest real gas station.

Fun morning, huh? It got better. To add insult to injury, I got to the gas station - only to discover that I didn't have my wallet. No gas, no money, twenty some miles from home...luckily, I had my checkbook stashed in my bag, and they were willing to take a check without my driver's license. All this, and my charming coworkers aren't even in yet.

Today is, as they say, t3h suck. I'm inclined to write it off as a loss and sulk.

It's decided - I want cookies, a very specific type of cookie, and I can't find a recipe that's going to do the trick. Time to experiment. Erik hasn't finished cleaning up the kitchen from his messes yet, so I can't use our kitchen until he finishes. I might, however, be able to coopt my mother's kitchen this weekend. She has better bakeware than I do anyway.

Mmmm...chewy cinnamon-chocolate cookies. Now the tough questions - plain, with chocolate chips, with white chocolate chips, with crushed almonds, or with some combination of the above? And which recipe do I start with as my base? Powdered cocoa or melted baker's chocolate? Flour or no flour? Baking powder, baking soda, or both? (probably just baking soda to start...)

I also have a strange urge to make a crock-pot beef roast stuffed with fresh garlic and seasoned with cinnamon. Cinnamon tastes much better with savory meat dishes than you might believe. I first had it in a Moroccan dish a few years ago, and have been experimenting ever since. Maybe with some ginger (powdered, fresh, or candied?) as well, but that might be pushing it. Lately, I've also been feeling like experimenting with different crock pot dishes using fruit juice as a base, rather than water or bullion. Pork in orange juice sounds really tasty.

Yup, time to clean up the kitchen, I'm in the mood for kitchen experiments. But I'm not hosting Thanksgiving again this year, nosiree.

[EDIT] Mmmm, Erik suggested baked sweet potato with my garlic-cinnamon roast. He does have occasional flashes of brilliance.
