Yowch - the pictures Terry took of me at VARF are even worse than I had imagined. *shudder* I am so not photogenic, especially after sweating in the sun for six hours...

Teresa Nielsen Hayden proves once again that she Gets It. It's an interesting essay, that makes an interesting point that so many non-fantasy readers (and far too many fantasy writers) just don't get. And the book it's attached to looks pretty damn good as well - Charles de Lint, Neil Gaiman, and Robin McKinley are all names on my "MUST BUY!" list, and all three (plus other authors I adore but don't quite slaver over quite as badly) in one anthology is too much to resist.

In addition to watching the fantastic Petite Princess Yucie and reading Avaryan Rising, I've been slowly savoring Ex Libris, which is proof positive that I have not yet reached the very bottom of my lifelong descent into Biblio-addiction. I have something to strive for!

The first essay, about marrying book collections, struck me as especially entertaining - Erik's and my book collections were only married in the sense that Tiber was married to the Roman Empire.

Hokay - can anyone manage to navigate around this site without being automagically redirected to a link farm? I thought the problem was with the ever so well-run NMCI network, but I'm having trouble on my home connection as well. If anyone has an explanation for this, I'd appreciate it.

On my slower home connection I can make it to other pages, but it redirects before the pictures load. On the faster work connection, it redirects from the front page before I can click on anything. Behavior seems to remain the same no matter what page I start with.

It's rather annoying, really. Someone managed to bleach a silk chemise from these people, and I was trying to find out if they used a specific type of silk to make redying recommendations easier. Silk dying is a lot of fun, but a little more labor and hardware-intensive than dying, say, linen or cotton.

I always knew that a college course in Fabric Dying and Painting would come in handy at some point. Pity that I could never fit Costume Construction into my schedule...
