They're taunting me again. Adelphia, that is. Taunting me most cruelly.

Yesterday, for the first time in over six months, we got a flyer telling us we should subscribe to HIGH-SPEED INTERNET!!!11oneone! Since it's been so long since they sent me one, I figured hey, I might as well call to see if they really mean it this time.

After being on-hold forever, I finally get a CS person, who informs me that yes, they do in fact offer service to my house. I respond with a flat-out denial: "No you don't."

"Oh yes!" she says, "we had a previous customer at that address!"

Aha, now I've caught her! We are the only people at this address who've been in contact with Adelphia - the previous owners had DirecTV, and Adelphia repeatedly told me over the space of several months that they don't offer service to my house. Ha ha, you couldn't trick me this time!

"Did they tell you they were going to do a site survey the last time you called," she asked innocently.

Warily, I responded. "Yes..."

"That's what it is, then - they did the site survey at your request, and now offer service to your house."

!!!

I repeat: !!!

So - I call up Erik. We reach a consensus in record time: we keep DirecTV (more channels + TiVo, other DVRs need not apply), and Adelphia is just messing with our heads and they don't, in fact, offer service to our house.

...but I'm calling them back to subscribe anyway.

[EDIT] Yup, cruel taunt. The second person told me they don't actually offer service to my house, but let her go check on something. I was on hold for a few minutes when I was...disconnected. I tried to call back, and got - immediately disconnected by the Adelphia system. Bastards!

*dies laughing*

Going to do some online banking...

I've reached the point where I don't care if Madlax is the most horrible thing to come along since Avenger, I must own all the discs just for Conversations with SSS. So funny - Jay Hickman is my new hero.

[EDIT] Ah, and I should have the first disc of Petite Princess Yucie by Thursday. I've been hearing enough slaveringly positive things about it that I suppose it's finally time for me to give it a watch.

Also the eleventh disc of Boys Over Flowers, which is annoying since I watched disc twelve...last night. From Netflix. There was a charming string of emails sent back and forth over that, let me assure you (Me: WTF!?! Netflix: *canned response not at all related to my email* Me: WTF!?! Netflix: *canned response not at all related to my email*). As soon as I watch Wedding Peach, I'll be signing up for a trial with Blockbuster to see how they do (there is a method to my madness, I assure you). I can handle shitty availability as long as the shipping times aren't more than a day or two.

No bad mood could withstand that waiting on my front porch for me. Along with PlanetES 2. I am more content than I was.

[livejournal.com profile] jpine? You need to go watch Yugo the Negotiator. It's the best thing since Master Keaton. Lots of suspense built up amazingly well, and lots of credible detail about Pakistani culture and politics.

I'm loving this show. This is another one of those shows to pull out when people say anime is for kids, or is nothing but kids saving the world. An all-adult cast, with a very adult story and themes. The washed-out and grainy look of the animation really does a lot to set the mood, and conveys the overwhelming heat and sun suprisingly well.

I actually made a thread (!!) on the AoD ET forum with my scattered thoughts on the dub. I hate doing that because I always feel like I'm either being incoherent, I'm forgetting something, or both. Overall a very positive impression of both the show and ADV's treatment of it - the translator and cultural notes in the insert is a nice touch.

Volume 1 is currently on sale (until Thursday) at TRSI for $8.99 - at that price, everyone should be checking this out.
