The Zoo over Ambuscade Street

Yesterday was interesting. If nothing else, that's one word I can always apply to days spent with the inlaws. Actually, it wasn't all that bad until after everyone finished eating (most people had overgrown insects, I had fruit salad, and some orange marmalade barbeque chicken. Yum.) Erik and Jon Alan (in fine form, as usual - the boy amuses me!) dashed off to have a discussion in private, leaving me pinned in a corner on the porch alone with the crazy mother-in-law who, as she always does when I get pinned in a corner with her, launched into a sob story of persecution and abuse, filled with much hyperbole. Ack...Someone had Done Her Wrong, and I might have felt more sorry for her if I hadn't agreed with most of what The Enemy had said. Ah well - I escaped eventually, found the boys on the back porch, and had a decently good time before we left. Also snagged about 5,000 pounds of leftovers, which should feed Erik and I though Wednesday. I'm way more lazy than usual about cooking lately.

I plan to read through all three books in Lost Lands of Witch World today, and watch Steamboy. I already finished the first volume of Yellow (ick...), the latest volume of Vampire Game (yay!), and the latest volume of Rebirth (Vampire King Tournament - actually, more interesting in execution than I had anticipated, so I'll probably keep reading this series. At 15 volumes, I'm kind of committed). That does it for the Big Box O' Manga I recieved last week - Dreamland's been processing another batch for a few weeks now (actually, for longer than the batch I recieved last week), so I don't know what's up with that. Eroica is in it, so I'll probably email them. I need my campy seventies gay thief...camp. It's just so damn fun.

Or maybe I'll spend the rest of the day just wallowing in books. They have sharp edges, though, so it probably wouldn't be as much fun as it sounds.

This weekend, I managed to get a connection speed of 7.9kbps. You read that right. Yay for crappy connections! By my watch I only have another 13 years to go before they have cable to my house, which will probably be paid off by then.

My cat is currently biting the carpet, and flipping herself about while connected to that piece of carpet. It's really strange. She was hiding in a DVD box earlier, too. And crawling around in my books. Not on - in. At least I'm not bored.

[EDIT] Ah, yes, and now with the knocking-down-a-pile-of-books-and-running-away-to-pretend-it-wasn't-her thing. It's all her fault I'm not quite halfway through this book. ^_^;;
