Today freaking rocked. And it has nothing at all to do with Harry Potter.
I woke up early, goofed off for a bit, then went on a 2.5 mile walk before it got *too* hot and muggy. And it did get really, really hot and muggy today. Came back, showered, did a little bit of housework (not enough, sadly), and watched the first episode of season 3 of Upstairs, Downstairs.
My god, but the show has managed to go from 'great' to 'freaking brilliant.' The end of that one episode was like a kick in the gut, even though I suspected it was coming (damn you, Netflix summaries!). Just stunning.
And speaking of 'freaking brilliant,' I followed that up with lunch at Paneras with Erik, then a showing of Batman Begins. Dear god, but I didn't think it was possible to make a movie that did Batman justice. Tim Burton did a good showing, but nothing compared to this. Simply a stunning movie.
The movie experience was shockingly nice as well - we went to the Marquee instead of the hideous Regal Cinemas in the Abomination Against God known as Central Park, and not only were there no lines, but the theater was clean, there were no commercials (barring the ones that show between features), no ads calling me, the paying moviegoing customer a dirty nasty thief, and a well-behaved audience. It was fantastic - almost enough to make me want to go to the theater more often. I only went once last year, and I've been a grand total of three times this year. I may actually start going more frequently - but only to the Marquee.
Came home to find Harry Potter (and the first Noir soundtrack) waiting for me, but I strangely have no real desire to read it right now. I'm not sure why. I bought the spiffy edition (anyone suprised?), and it's really very nice - bound in harlequin black silk, even, in addition to the gorgeous dustjacket and slipcase. I'll probably read it tomorrow after Erik goes to work - anyone who spoils me will be subject to Stabbity Death.
I felt like walking again, but it was far too humid, so I watched another episode of Upstairs, Downstairs and waited for it to cool off. It did (slightly), so I dragged Erik along with me - only 1.5 miles this time, because he's a wuss. We nabbed a few ripe blackberries off the wild vines in our yard - yum. Oh my god were they good - I think I know what I'll be doing tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll bug my mom to give me her canning stuff since she hasn't touched it in years. There's nothing like home-made wild blackberry jam. Oooo...I do have a piecrust in the freezer, too...(I know, I'm a horrible person, but pastery gives me all kinds of difficulties.)
Now...I think I may have overdone it on the walks, because my hands are shaking badly enough that I'm having trouble typing. Kind of sucks, really.
If Erik wakes up early enough tomorrow we're going to hike some of the trails at Lake Anna state park - we really should dole out for a lifetime park pass, but a few unexpected bills have left me Badly Tapped Out this month. I hate that.
It was a good day - I want more like this.
