Erik and I ran out to get dinner last night, and came home to a power outage. We discovered it thusly:

Erik, holding refrigerator door open: Hey Danielle, the power's off! *continues to hold refrigerator door open.

He keeps me endlessly entertained. But then, so do explosives. It was stunningly silent with everything off - it's normally pretty quiet out where I am, but without even the background noise of the AC, fridge, etc - it was nice. I settled in to read in the quiet, and Erik, who is apparently not comfortable in silence (he likes turning both TVs on for background noise when he's home), broke out the Gameboy. Ah well.

Although I didn't mention it before, my Fourth was suprisingly enjoyable. The party was less agonizing than anticipated, Robin's parents were less "we're too rich for you" than they were at the wedding, and the rest of the people (we knew - none of them) were all fairly entertaining. Zoli's cousin is visiting for a few months from Romania for a school program of some sort, and she impressed the hell out of me - she started learning English three months ago, and while she still doesn't have the vocabulary, we managed to communicate without much difficult. There was bocce and cards, too - I wasn't going to play cards at all, because after a rousing game of Hand and Foot (six person minimum, 12 decks of cards minimum), regular cards are kind of dull, but I was coerced, and soundly trounced everyone at Rummy, which is like easy, boring Hand and Foot.

Note to self: Get Hand and Foot set, several copies of the Virginia Rules, and start corrupting more people.
