Today was fun, aside from the crippling heat and residual exhaustion. I may need another day off to recover - I realized today that it's been over a month since I've had a real day off.
Erik and I went to town today and explored the fabric store. He continues to have bad taste. ^_^ We finally found a really nice not-suede (it's really more like a velvet, but the bolt says fake suede...) in a rich burgundy for his doublet, but since it's a fancy fabric we decided he really needed a cloak as well. We found a lovely textured fabric that would be great for a cloak, but it was an uninspired eggshell color, so I decided to dye it.
I haven't dyed anything for far, far too long. I forgot how much fun it is. I also forgot to buy gloves - the only ones we have in the house were last used by Erik when he had poison ivy, and I really didn't want to risk it. The fabric's in the washing machine now with one bottle of black dye and two of navy blue - it's coming out really nicely thus far. I'm thinking we might need another bottle of each once it's done (the fabric takes dye really, really well, but there's so much of it that I'm a little concerned it won't be dark enough). We'll see how it looks once it dries.
And now...I nap. As slow as our washing machine is, it won't be done for another hour or so, then it has to go through the cycle again to actually get clean. If this comes out as well as I think it will, I may go back for the rest of the bolt. I think there were about five yards left, certainly enough for a corset or something. God bless remainder piles in fabric stores. ^_^
