Thoughts on the Faire:
I got there a little after nine. Gate was at ten. At the time I was arrived, nothing was ready, and half the tents still needed to be set up. I was immediately drafted to do sixteen things at once, from getting cloth for the tables in the pub to getting water for the roses to folding t-shirts. Was assigned to multiple placed, before finally ending up at the gift shop. Thought to self "dear god, do any of these people know what they're doing?" Great feelings of unease persisted until nearly noon, when the first reports of how we were doing came in.
Oh, and I should note that we never got the inventory sheets for the gift shop, and we didn't get actual prices until nearly noon. We winged it until then.
Things Improved Greatly after that. We ended up with over 500 people, the gift shop and beer tent did better than expected (we spanked the beer tent - but we were open for an extra three hours). Quite exciting. We made, as they say, enough money that we can open tomorrow - apparently, at one point, this was a concern. Ouch. Everyone's saying that this is the "make it or break it" year for the faire - now, I see what they mean.
But, if things persist even half as well as they did today, this faire is going to make it, and make it well. It looks like we might make our inital costs this weekend - after that, it's all profit, except for any additional merchandise we may pick up. And we do need to pick up additional merchandise.
The weather was gorgeous, my costume was complimented by a great many people, because it kicks ass, and I found a pair of leather scale bracers that I want! I may force Erik to wear them - he hasn't seen them yet, but he doesn't seem adverse to the idea.
Very tired, very dehydrated. Deliberately, because portapotties and skirts with petticoats are a nasty, nasty combination. I feel so much sympathy for the gals in the court gowns with farthingales. Yick.
Tired now. Must watch Ippo. Then sleep.
[EDIT] I should note that there was one woman in the same dress I had (but in black). She, however, was wearing it with a different chemise, and without the petticoat. Smart woman. I wore it better, though. ^_^
