Fu-Master followed up the last quote with a fascinating conversation with Buck about converting centimeters to litres. For an hour!
I can't decide if I'm going to continue with Rebirth or not. I had decided that the extended trip to backstory-land was getting Really Dull back with Volume 8, but I was going to give it one more volume to see if it improved. But I bought Volume 10 instead, so I ended up giving it two more volumes. And it got much, much better, so I decided to continue. Backstory ended in V12 (that scene made me laugh for reasons that the writer certainly did not intend. "And it was all a dream!" *sniirk*), and the story actually started progressing into V13.
Then, I guess, the writer realized that he had really written himself into quite the corner (Hmmmm....spend twelve volumes writing up antagonist as invincible, show him spanking good guys numerous times, then make him more powerful....Hmmm, how are the good guys going to win?!?), and apparently didn't have any good ideas as to how he should get himself out of it. "Vampire King Tournament" is not a good idea. Oh no.
Vampire. King. Tournament. This goes down with "lava surfing" as one of the most notable Really Stupid Plot Devices ever.
[EDIT] Twelve Kingdoms is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Go watch it - but watch at least the first two discs before you decide. I'm really enjoying the third story arc - but not as much as the second with Keiki. Damnit, with only two discs left to watch, and the third arc incomplete, I'm sadly afraid that I'm not going to see the rest of the Black Kirin's story, which makes me sad. I'll offer up kidneys to anyone who licenses the novels.
