Latest email from That Man: A forward with a hojillion email addresses in it, titled "Chicken," with only a link and a comment stating "Make sure you have your sound on!" at the bottom.

Riiiiight. Gotta love the parental attempts at reconciliation. Or not.

I watched the rest of the second Marmalade Boy scrapbook yesterday, and it made me happy. No other show can pull off love polygons the way MB can, and make them both believable and compelling. I'm sad that I'm halfway through - I'll get through the third set this week, and then no more until the end of April. Then no shoujo crack until Kodocha starts up in June. Assuming a two-month release schedule (pretty big assumption with FUNi), I'll have four years of wonderful, wonderful insane shoujo to keep me occupied. By then, hopefully, Peach Girl will be coming out on R1 (maybe sooner - it's new and has an air of shiny. Maybe Tokyopop will get it, since the manga seems to have done well for them).

Other than that, and the odd (very odd, in some cases) magical girl show, things look pretty grim for R1 shoujo. On the DVD front, anyway - shoujo manga seems to be doing quite well, although the recent series of small publisher implosions has me a bit worried about what the market may hold.

Gah - the hardest part about bidding on Y!JP auctions is the waiting - waiting for your deputy service to place the freaking bids (They have a real-time self bidding service, too, but it requires that you have a huge deposit, since if you bid, become the high bidder, get outbid, and want to bid again, you have to have the total of your first bid plus your second bid free. It's a pretty dumb system, but it works for most things. I guess.) and then you have to wait for the auction to end. But you have to stalk it towards the end of the auction, since people without Y!JP logins can't see an auction's results past a minute or two after the auction ends. Also a dumb system.

Ah well - If I don't get Glass Mask (EDIT: Auction has ended, no idea if it was me or not), I'm going to bid on one auction with the second Ace wo Nerae OVA and the movie, and a second auction with the entire second season. Then, I can just pick up the first OVA set and the singles for the first season.

It's icky and rainy outside, but I want to hike. Maybe I'll go anyway...

In the unfortunate event that a Tokyopop sale happens at RightStuf this week, I'm looking at an obscene number of books to order - over 70, assuming my cut pile remains as is. Which I won't swear to.

Ginormous list )

I may make a trip to Borders at some point this week to peruse my cut list titles. Although that may be a bad idea - if I decide I really, really want them, I'll have to cut the R2 budget. Which may not be all that bad, thinking about it. I don't need to get everything now, after all. Of course, the same holds true for manga - there's always the next sale. Especially since I refuse to pay more than $6 for a regular volume of manga.

The First Rule of Cast Guessing Games:

The more I'm interested in a show, the lower my chances are of actually winning. Conversely, the less interested I am in a show, the more likely I am to win (sometimes by defying all odds). If I am A) not interested in a show, and B) in a pot for one of my favorite actors, I'm even more likely to win.

What does this mean? No correct guesses in Round 1 of the Elfen Lied game. And only two characters remaining to be guessed. Blarg.

In Dani's World (tm), there is a rule that says "Thou shalt not be late to a meeting, as it's Really, Really Rude." Now, we understand that there are extenuating circumstances that come up, but there are limits.

It's 3:10. I supposedly had a meeting with Boss Man and NewBoss Woman ten minutes ago. Boss Man has been wandering in and out of his office and calling people, ignoring me completely. NewBoss Woman is just nowhere to be found.

As far as I'm concerned, the meeting's cancelled. It's snowing (the hell? It was 70 yesterday!), so I'm going to be going home early. I've already been here for over 8 hours, and the roads are going to suck. If they don't like it, tough.
