Because of the joys of NMCI, we have a new process we have to go through when new people show up, so they can get email and things of that nature. EDS, the contractor responsible for the hideous mess that is NMCI, says the process takes 24-48 hours. This may or may not be true - I haven't yet had the chance to confirm (should happen today).
The thing is, it's 24-48 hours after the request gets into something called Remedy. Before the request can be entered into Remedy, I have to gather all the data and fill out a form, which I then send to TW, who enters it into the MAC database. Once it's in the MAC database, it sits there until one of only two people for the entire base gets around to entering it into Remedy. Then, 24-48 hours pass, and the account gets created. Then, we have to wait for notifications to be sent down the line, since there's no other way to check the status.
Tuesday at around two-thirty PM, I get a request to create an account, and I'm told it's a priority. So while they're still standing there, I get all the information I need, fill out the form, and send it to TW. I tell them it's going to take a few days.
Nine AM yesterday, I get a call asking if it's done yet. I say I'll tell them as soon as I hear something. Noon, I get a visit in my office, asking if it's done yet. I tell them that the very instant I hear something, I'll let them know. Two PM, I get another phone call, telling me that this really is a Priority, and I need to Hurry Up and Get Things Done. I tell them that I did all I can, and I'll tell them as soon as I hear something. They inform me that "It's only supposed to take 24-48 hours!"
I look at my clock, and somehow heroicly refrain from pointing out that it hasn't been 24 hours yet, and if they had gotten me the information I needed sooner, this would be over and done with.
He, being a Very Important Person (Fucktard's boss, predictably enough), tells me that he requires a status update "First thing in the morning!"
I, being a sadistic bitch, tell him I'll give him an update as soon as I have one.
But I forget - this is the US Govenment, where a lack of planning on your part must become a crisis on my part.
