I forgot to mention this yesterday, but Boss Man's replacement has finally been named, only four or so months after the fact.

...And it's not Fu-Master. There was much rejoicing on my part, but not on his - he sulked and was extrordinarily pissy all day. Since that pretty much meant he sat in his corner and was quiet, it was a vast improvement over his normal monkey antics. Yay!

His replacement is one of my coworkers who's a character, to say the least. But if you want to make damn sure that you've met all the requirements listed in obscure 500+ page government regs and your paperwork is in the proper format, she's your woman.

She tends to get a little too caught up in the details, but she can be fun. Also very angry if you don't express sufficient concern with said details, which isn't so nice. She also lives not all that far from where I do (i.e. in the middle of nowhere, far, far from work), so that works out well. And she shares interests in cooking and knows how to spin, which may come in handy if I do get those alpacas.

Which I'm giving serious thought to. Serious thought as in "how fast can we turn the back of our property into pasture" kind of serious. Why? Especially since I taunted Erik so much when he first brought up the idea?

One - alpaca wool. Alpaca wool is serious cash, and if I can turn it into yarn and dye it (I took an entire class in college on dying stuff, may as well put it to work, eh?), it may be more serious cash. Also, this will enable me to use the sentance "Sorry, Erik can't come to the phone because he's out shaving alpacas." How cool would that be?

The other reason is just silly, but it works for me. And I mean really silly. See, alpacas aren't so good at defending themselves, so you usually have to get some sort of guard animal to protect them from ravaging coyotes or foxes or what have you. Probably bears, too, in this area. But dogs aren't traditional with alpacas. What is?

An attack llama. An honest-to-god trained and certified attack llama.

I must have one.
