Wow. There's only one thing certain about this election thus far, and that's that we're going to see record turnouts. The polls here in VA open at 6AM. I got out of the house a bit (ok, a lot. Snooze alarm is evil), so I didn't get there until about 6:30.
When I got there, the parking lot was packed. There were over 40 people in the P-Z line (the one I have to stand in, of course). The other two lines were much shorter - five people or less. When I finally got out of line, it was just as long. The vote repository machine had collected over 300 votes in under an hour, from just one small polling place. Just one. I doubt they had 300 votes total in the last election. There were a surprising number of very young, nervous looking first-time voters, too.
We had the spiffy connecto-arrow ballots, too, which gave me warm fuzzies. No 3v1L Diebold machines here, no siree! I got to throw the AP Government exit poller for a loop, too - poor girl didn't know who Badnarik was. Heh heh heh...Hopefully my responses will spark some discussion there, too.
I've got a few hours to feel all happy about this until the anxiety sets in. Yay!
