So...wrong...
Anyway, the trip. I shall gloss over Tuesday and much of Wednesday, because let me tell you, there are far more entertaining things than spending 19 hours in a minivan. Much more entertaining things.
So, Wednesday afternoon, two-ish. We arrive and check into our hotel. We return to the parking lot, where my mother and I express concern about the probable location of my Grandparents, who left from Tucson several days before. No sooner is concern expressed when they pull into the parking lot. Rock! Much fun is had by all, especially at the expense of the poor hotel employees who aren't allowed to say room numbers out loud.
Went to rooms. I ditched everybody and took a shower. Felt Much Better after that. Rachel and Nick eventually showed up with Nick's parents in tow, and much fun was had at Rachel's expense. I think we went over to Nick's parent's house at that point, but I don't really remember - sleeping in a car doesn't count, and it showed. Most of the day was kind of blurry after the shower.
Aunt Toni, Angelica, and Sadyna showed up at some point. There was much happiness, as it's been five or six years since I've seen them. They're insane. Dinner was eaten, and I don't remember anything after that.
Thursday was spent in the hotel lobby folding boxes for wedding favors. We were supposedly going to decorate the church and reception hall, but that never happened. I declined to pay $40 to have my hair done, and french knotted it myself. My mom curled it and attempted to pin it into place - bad idea. The curling bit was OK, but the pinning of the curls was terrifying. Then there was Wedding Stuff.
It was nice, although I thought Nick looked incredibly goofy in his Sailor Suit. I had to fight of the urge to hand him a wand...good thing I didn't have one. I guess enlisted guys don't get dress whites. I took quite a few embarassing candid pictures of Rachel before my batteries died. Fun stuff - if I can ever upload them I'll do so.
The reception was a blast, if a bit lacking in people. Four or five tables were completely empty. I hung out with Aunt Toni, Angelica, and Sadyna for most of the evening, danced in a goofy fashion with everybody, and generally had a good time. Also took pictures with Angelica's digital that came out quite nice - I've gotten terrifyingly good at getting fantastic bouquet toss pictures.
Friday was fun - everybody met at our hotel for free breakfast, then split up to do stuff. Sadyna kept asking if I was going shopping with them, so I did. There was shopping, and bonding, and girly shirts purchased to make Erik happy. He was. We rejoined everybody at the Caruso's house where Rachel and Nick opened presents. Nick seems to have a fantastic talent for making cash diappear. Rachel would open a card with cash, and it would be gone in seconds flat. There was more goofing off, with assistance from the Time-Out Wolf. My family is insane, but fun at parties if you're immune from embarassment. After several years in theatre, I think I qualify. (YOU try running around a hotel in downtown Richmond in a spandex unitard and greasepaint and running into people you know!)
We had the Best. Waitress. Evar. at dinner, and a surprise party for Uncle Rick afterwards (his birthday's tomorrow). Then we all had to say goodbye, which was sad. Lots of crying. I somehow got roped into volunteering my house for Christmas. I'm not quite sure where I'm going to put everyone, but it'll be a good time. Someone can sleep in my bathtub. ^_^
The drive back was uneventful, long, and boring. Some excitement was provided by reading Lovecraft while driving through the misty mountains of West Virginia. Good stuff. It was around 1AM by the time we neared my house, and Terry, for reasons I won't speculate on at this time, decided that we needed to get to my house by roads I've never been on before. That was interesting...
But, I survived, and can commence with the unpacking of the boxes, which apparently needs to be complete by Thanksgiving if I'm going to be hosting lots of people at Christmas.
One rather amusing interchange was overheard during the reception - Illinois is not Las Vegas, clearly.
Random Guest: Who are those people? *points to Angelica and Sadyna*
Mr. Caruso: Rachel's cousins. They're hers. *points to Aunt Toni* She's married to a black man.
Aunt Toni was, of course, in earshot. It was interesting. I'm glad to be back. I can't believe Rachel is married. I'm far too tired to get anything accomplished work-wise today.
