The Zoo over Ambuscade Street

Things Went Down yesterday. Lots of things. Big things. Things that include visitors from offices that have the initials 'I' and 'G'. Lots of fallout from that.

Boss Man was apparently here until midnight last night attempting to deal with this - and he had gotten in earlier than I did yesterday, and was here before me this morning as well.

He was supposed to go to New Orleans for a NMCI conference this weekend, lasting all of next week. Now, he can't go, and I'm on the short list to go in his place. At the bottom of the short list, true, but I don't know how many of the other people on the list can go places on such a short notice.

In~ter~est~ing day. Lots of stuff to do. Don't expect to see me around...anywhere until things calm down a bit.

It's currently 3:52. I found out less than ten minutes ago that yes, I am going to New Orleans, and oh by the way you leave Saturday and need to get everything transferred (flight, rental car, hotel) to you and get new travel orders cut by tomorrow.

I suppose I should mention that this base essentially shuts down at 3:30. And that the registrations for both conferences have vanished into the ether, so I'm going to have to register (and pay) at the door.

There is one highlight - free schwag. Lots of it. I am addicted to free stuff, especially of the schwag variety. I heart the duct tape wallet and checkbook holder I got at SANS.

Currently on hold with the one person apparently still working, other than me. Our branch secretary (the person I need to to all the travel-ordery-type stuff) is nowhere to be found. I'm somehow going to have to track down a laptop tomorrow as well. And load a few codec-type things on it, if you know what I mean.

Gah! Too many things to do, and none of the people I need here to do them!

I was feeling fairly stressed when I left work, but that's all better now.

I had just gotten onto the part of Rt 3 where the speed limit goes up and I can cruise for about 20 miles without having to think too hard when my Mini-Radar went off. Ahead of me, off in the distance, was a silver Mini. Damn but they're cute cars! And hoi jeebus can they move, I noticed that as well.

She apparently saw me about the same time as I saw here, and we spent the next fifteen or so miles playing - speeding up, slowing down, changing lanes, etc (all without discomfiting any other drivers, of course - Mini drivers are polite drivers!). I finally passed her towards the end; we waved and gave each other the required thumbs-up (it says so right in the Mini manual) with huge grins plastered to our faces. She paced me the last few miles until our ways parted, and we waved goodbye.

It was fun. I'm not sure why, but it really was a lot of fun.
