"If the geek shall inherit the Earth, then the Earth shall be the poorer for it."

Eh?

I think I object to some of the assumptions he's making, and to the assertation that geeks are escapists who use the Internet to avoid confronting conflicting views, but I'm far too incoherent to articulate what I think I want to articulate.

Newsprint Gray

This whole getting to work at 3AM thing kind of sucks. A lot.

My drive in today was odd - it's dark through most of it, no lights of any kind but my headlights. Add a thick fog to the mix and visibility was almost nothing. It was an eerie feeling (probably brought on by lack of sleep), but it was as if the road in front of me didn't exist until I illuminated it with my headlights. Nothing existed until my observation caused it to be. I was on a tiny island of reality in an endless sea of gray.

Getting back into the more populated areas didn't really help, either. Lights didn't penetrate very far into the mist, making them almost invisible until I was almost on them. Headlights were the exception to this - I could tell when a car was coming long before it came in view.

When the wind blew the mist formed into odd, unearthly shapes in front of me. I think it's probably a good thing that when I leave work in an hour and a half it will be daylight out.
