I've mentioned before that on occasion I have to go and babysit a pile of dirt. Or get other people to do it for me. This past weekend was one of those times.
Saturday morning before Thomas and Stacey showed up I get a phone call from my boss. It went something like this: "Danielle! They're planning on leaving this exposed all night. Why didn't you tell me about this?" Me: "...shit." I'm not sure what happened after that point, because the next thing I heard was at about 8PM that night when Chris called me to tell me that they were closing up shop and had covered everything up.
Sunday I get a phone call at 7PM from Fu-Master telling me that he really needs to go get his kids food (he brought his kids!?!) and that they weren't going to finish up until 10PM. Chris goes back out, as I live an hour away, and I assume that everything is happy and over when I don't hear anything else last night.
Bad assumption. Apparently Chris was there until 10PM, and the construction workers were still going strong. He called Mike out (Mike being my Netops lead, someone I really really really need here today), and Mike was out there from 10PM until 6AM this morning!!! Not good. He calls Chris back out and goes home for the day, leaving me with one junior netops guy in the shop and nobody else. Literally - Fu-Master and my boss aren't here, Mike's out for the day, and Chris is out watching a hole in the ground until Aaron gets here.
And they're planning on leaving it exposed all night, too. Right now my only viable option is to stick around here for another two hours or so and then go home and go back to bed, so I can come back at 4PM this evening to work until 8AM tomorrow. Sitting outside. In the rain. Watching a pit.
Needless to say, this is not high on my list of fun ways to spend a work day.
