Trip report, more for my benefit than anyone else's.
My trip started out rather unaspiciously - we forgot my sweater, so we had to turn around to get it. Then, once we were about 90 miles from the house, we discovered that we had also forgot the camera. Not good. FINALLY arrived at Mom's house, and made it to the airport without incident the next day. Or so we thought. There was a flight crew at the gate across from us flipping out because their flight was delayed. Turns out that was our flight crew. There was snow in Dallas - somewhere between 2 and 8 inches of the stuff (depending on who you talked to). Had to wait for our plane, which had not yet LEFT Dallas, to be de-iced. Three hours after our scheduled departure we were in the air.
Arrived at Dallas with everyone on the plane anxious to see this mythical snow that held us up - it wasn't there. Yea, that was rather annoying. No further incident getting to Tucson.
Spent Sunday sleeping and catching up with my grandparents, which is always fun - they have warped and twisted senses of humor. Monday we went to the Desert Museum (for free! Aunt Darcy had some extra passes) and admired all the aminals (yes, that was deliberate). We also got up close and personal with a family of Harris Hawks. The Alpha male apparently took offense at my hat, because he seemed bound and determined to take it, or my head, off with his dives.
It was CROWDED! Lots of people - apparently there was an international gem show, rodeo, a PGA tournament, and a pro bowling (???) tournament. Two thefts at the gem show - one was an idiot leaving a suitcase with $100,000 in gems in a taxi. If I had a suitcase worth $100,000, I think it would be chained to my arms. Both of them.
Tuesday Erik did yardwork, which mainly consisted of moving different colored rocks from point A to point B. Wednesday we went hiking in Sabino Canyon, and went a bit off the beaten track, taking the Bear Canyon trail to the Seven Falls trail, which we followed for about two miles into the declared wilderness area. Most of the trail ran parallel to a stream which we criss-crossed over several times, jumping from rock to rock. THAT was fun. We did a bit over seven miles, by my guess, and got rather....crispy. Hence the icon. It was 85 degrees, which was a record high. Rawsk! I even have something that in some fashion resembles a tan, which is more color than I've had in many, many years. It makes me look rather more pink than brown, but that's still an improvement over my usual milk-white. My parents and Grandpa Richard arrived that night, signaling an end to the quiet - chaos enused.
More later, work's going to kill me or die trying today.
