machine_dove at 06:53pm on 31/01/2004With the arrival of my 1098-E today, I am finally able to complete my taxes. It feels like it took longer than usual to get them done this year, even though it isn't even February yet, because I've had my W2 sitting here since January 2. The effectiveness of the Federal Paymasters is a frightening thing to behold.
I almost didn't wait for it - I was going to file without it, because it's for a credit that I thought would be rather...insubstantial. Last year it got me a tax credit of $4.07. I'm glad I waited, though, because it put another $180 back into my pocket - kind of scary that I paid that much in student loan interest last year, considering that my payments are only supposed to be $40 a month. Makes me happier that I pay much more than the minimum every months - that sucker will be gone in another year.
It feels good to be almost out of debt...with the exception of my car, and the looming house which is so big that I don't think it really qualifies as debt. And a house has a magic thing called equity associated with it, as well as massive tax write-offs, so next year should be a much happier tax season. Not that this year was bad - any refund is nicer than having to pay.
Anyway, this refund should nicely pad the downpayment, once it gets here - I think it only took a week and a half for our state refund ($11, it might buy dinner), and about a month for our Federal return.

(And Mizuiro really is good, and is apparently hosted on the Server of the Gods, since I was able to download each of the two episodes on my crap connection in under five minutes - directly, not with bittorrent.)
