*hates all over computer*

The IDE channel went out completely today. Oddly enough, the rest of the computer is acting markedly less wonky than it was yesterday. Now I have to track down an IDE card today and install it, which was NOT on my list of Stuff To Do today. And it must be done today, because without the CD drives working, Erik cannot play Morrowind. And THAT, my friends, is just not allowed!

He's also trying to talk me into dropping $700 on a new computer, or parts for said new computer. I am thus far unconvinced, because that takes $700 out of the downpayment, and I really want a house more than a computer. I think I can survive with a wonky computer for a few months if I have to.

So...for all those I promised to be on today for...I will be, once my computer returns to being in one piece. Yay!

Erik has offered to demonstrate his l33t skills by replacing the motherboard. Naked. No more MT for him!

[EDIT] Actual statement from Erik: "What? I could do it if you showed me what the motherboard was!"

The IDE PCI card...didn't work. With the CD drives connected to it my computer was completely unable to locate either hard drive (still connected to the motherboard), much less the two CD drives. With the CD drives and the hard drives connected to it, the BIOS could locate said hard drives (but not, still, the optical drives), but not boot off of them.

So, I'll be replacing said motherboard. And, probably replacing the processer at the same time - there's a rather nice Duron 1.6 combo up on Tigerdirect that's calling my name. AND takes DIMMs, so I don't have to buy more memory too. Of course, it only takes two DIMMs, and I have three currently, so I'll have slightly less memory for a while, unless I buy a DDR chip at the same time. I think I'll pass - 512 should be enough for this PC, especially if I build another one after we move.

But I can't install a mobo myself (OK, I possibly could, but it takes me too far out of my comfort zone), so I'll have to wait for Thomas and Stacey to visit before I can get it installed. And Erik is POUTING and MOPING insufferably because "he's bored," and is apparently completely unable to entertain himself without Morrowind. He's threatening to leave and get into trouble...I'm almost hoping he does, as it would give me a chance to be productive without him pouting all over the place.

He's really 26, I swear...he's just not acting like it today.
