My cousin teaches HS english. He's said that he's seen them showing up in grades papers.

Along the same lines, I've always wondered why we still use the "Dear Soandso" salutation for business letters. Are they really that dear? I've even seen them on the CO's monthly letters/updates to the Admiral. Blows my mind.
